Ultimus is a member of the Kree race, a warrior believed to be a Kree Eternal. Somehow he came to Earth, and fell into a state of suspended animation in a subterranean area 3,000 years ago. He was accidentally awakened from his slumber, and as the Demon Druid he battled Thor in England. He finally reached Stonehenge, and launched himself into space.[1] Some time later, he reappeared in Scotland and encountered Excalibur. He created a nuclear facsimile of Stonehenge, which opened a teleportational gateway to his home world.[2]
Ultimus was later contacted on an unnamed planet in the Kree Galaxy and recruited by the Supreme Intelligence to aid in the Kree/Shi'ar War.[3] Ultimus traveled to Hala, where he met Shatterax, Korath, and Supremor for the first time.[4] As a member of the Kree Starforce, he battled the Avengers. He witnessed the assassination of Ael-Dan and Dar-Benn by Deathbird.[5] Alongside Starforce, he arrived in the Shi'ar Empire to assassinate Lilandra, but instead they battled another contingent of Avengers and the Shi'ar Imperial Guard.[6] Ultimus returned to Hala alongside Lilandra, Starforce, and the Imperial Guard after the detonation of the nega-bomb to help the Kree rebuild under Shi'ar rule.[7] Alongside Starforce and Deathbird, Ultimus encountered Quasar, Her, and Makkari on Hala.[8] With Korath and Shatterax he encountered the Underground Legion, who were pursuing Lord Tnatalus, the man who buried him.[9] Arriving on Armechadon, they confront Tnatalus' expanded Peacekeepers and Ultimus is apparently reburied by one of their number, Schizo.[10]
Ultimus is believed to be a Kree Eternal, a genetic offshoot of the humanoid blue-skinned Kree. He has superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes. Ultimus has the ability to manipulate cosmic energy to augment his life force, granting him great longevity and regenerative abilities, the projection of cosmic energy as concussive bolts from his hands, the ability to project an invisible force field about his body varying from a radius of one-inch to several yards, the ability to fly by harnessing anti-gravitons, and possibly other powers. Ultimus also has a homing instinct enabling him to locate a particular site, such as Stonehenge.
